On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of Marià Fortuny (1838-1874), it is possible to visit again The Tapestry Seller (Paris, 1870) by the artist from Reus, the well-known watercolour of the Museum of Montserrat, which until now was resting in the reserve deposit of the museum.

It is one of the most emblematic Fortuny works, one of the most outstanding examples of its watercolorist and orientalist style. The collector Josep Sala Ardiz donated it to the Museum of Montserrat in 1980.

The painting is the expression of the visual reality that the artist experienced in vivo and how the watercolor ceases to have a watery and blurred tonality that characterizes it to obtain a more intense and defined property, which is accentuated by the small and strategic touches of gouache, especially white.
